Majestic Wine today announced managing director of its retail arm John Colley has decided to step down from his role from 31st May.
The responsibilities of Colley, who the wine retailer said had resigned to take on a new role closer to his family in the south of England, will be passed on to chief executive Rowan Gormley. Details of his new appointment will be revealed later today.
Since taking on the role of managing director at the company’s retail arm in October 2015, Colley has been credited with playing a key part in the first phase of the ”Majestic Wine Retail transformation”, streamlining processes and making the business “more professional in its outlook”.
In congratulation Colley on “getting Majestic back on its feet”, Gormley said: John has built a talented and diverse retail and commercial board with many years of experience.”
Reporting directly to Gormley, the team would carry on running the day-to-day business with no other management changes made, said Majestic, adding the Naked Wines and Lay & Wheeler businesses would continue to also report directly to Rowan.
With Majestic organically growing sales for the first time in many years, its job now was to accelerate that by “building its customer base through loyalty”, said Gormley.
“This is exactly what gets me excited and what I love doing so it’s a perfect time for me to get more involved.”
