Mitchells & Butlers adds 'skinny' sparkling wine to its menu

Mitchells & Butlers is hoping to entice calorie-conscious drinkers by adding a ‘skinny’ sparkling wine to its menu.

The Skinny Fizz Brut Nature tipple is a premium sparkling Spanish wine, made by Pago de Tharsys to traditional method; sourced, packaged and stored with very high levels of sustainability.

Positioned as “guilt-free, sophisticated and elegant”, each 125ml glass contains less than 0.2 grams of residual sugar (1.5g per litre).

The drink, developed for the pub and restaurant chain by Milton Sandford Wines, would tap the “real consumer pull” for low calorie and low sugar products, particularly the growing area of sparkling wine, said Henry Boyes, wine procurement manager at Mitchells & Butlers.

“We looked at a few different options in the market, but the brilliantly clear and simple presentation of The Skinny Fizz allows us to really deliver on that guest requirement,” said Boyes, adding it was particular pleasing that the product’s low calorie and low sugar credentials did not come at the expense of the quality of the liquid or the provenance of the producer.

Customers will be able to purchase Brut Nature from Mitchells & Butlers All Bar One, Browns, Castle Pubs, Nicholson’s, Miller & Carter and Premium Country Pubs brands from next month.

In the off-trade, it will be available exclusively through direct to consumer business the Wine Cellar Club.
