A range of RTD cold-brewed spirit-infused teas has been introduced to offer Brits an alternative way to enjoy their afternoon cuppa, or as a G&T replacement.
The new 11% abv duo, the first launch from drinks start-up Noveltea, consists of The Tale of Tangier and The Tale of Earl Grey.
Inspired by tea stories from around the world and named after eccentric tales,The Tale of Tangier is an infusion of Moroccan green mint tea with Caribbean rum for an exotic fruit and floral flavour, while The Tale of Earl Grey infuses Earl Grey tea with British gin and botanicals for a smooth and rich taste.
Both drinks have been cold-brewed for up to 12 hours to enhance the taste of the teas, with the process drawing out all the distinctive flavours without causing some of the bitter notes that can be associated with traditional tea, said co-founder Vincent Efferoth, adding the process also produced lower levels of caffeine by extracting more antioxidants than hot-brewed processes.
Having already captured the attention of upmarket on-trade establishments looking to be “early adopters of this new trend”, the brand this week made its retail debut with Fenwick Newcastle.
“Noveltea presents a very unusual but on trend proposition with its alcoholic tea blends, as the UK is a dynamic market for gin, rum and tea,” said Robin Winterschladen, wine & spirit buyer, at Fenwick Newcastle.
